Boise River Blues

Boise River Blues
On the way to Annapolis, Maryland for “Paint Annapolis”, a juried plein air painting event, we have stopped briefly at my home town, Boise, Idaho for a family gathering.
I grew-up floating and fishing this gorgeous river, which starts high in the Sawtooth Mountains about 120 miles northeast of Boise, flows through the city and empties into the Snake River, near the Idaho/Oregon border.
The light this morning was spectacular at this small cataract near Bown Crossing. What always amazes me about this river is the sheer volume of water it carries, with swift current conducive to warped shadows from the distant trees.

You can't always “go home” again, but for me, this is still a place I call home in Idaho, whenever the op arises to paint here.
I will be blogging totally different images next week from Annapolis, during the competition which runs from June 2-30, ending with a quick draw June 29.
Hope to see some of you during the event!
