Anacortes Arts Festival 51st Annual

Foggiest Notion
Foggiest Notion
I am pleased to announce that one of my recent plein air pieces "Foggiest notion" was accepted into the juried division of the 51st Annual Anacortes Arts Festival. Juror is Barbara Matilsky, Art Curator of the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, WA. The Annual Opening Event is Saturday, July 28th from 6:00-
8:00 p.m., at the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed. The festival runs August 3-5.

This is one of my larger format pieces (19.5 x 24.5 image size), painted in one session at the estuary lagoon separating Port Stanley and Swifts Bay from the north end of Lopez Island. I was particularly intrigued with the drifting fog and back-lit atmospheric conditions, which the morning sun
finally burned-off @ 11 a.m.

Sometimes, the reflections in the water were actually stronger than the images that made them, simply because the fog-induced light bounced around everything in my view, constantly changing as I painted. I don't often "chase the light", but felt compelled to do it with this particular
weather condition, which made pleasing, ever changing shapes and forms, right in front of my nose.
