Morning Sun Shadows

Painted at the fields just below Union Cemetery and Center Church on Lopez Island with a marine layer over the distant Straits of Juna de Fuca below the Olympic Mountains. The distant blues together with marine layers in early morning light gave this field an exciting warm contrast so typical in the San Juan Islands.

I like that a hay bale can create a living presence and soulful rhythm from the place it came, in warm summer light.

This painting was selected for the "Top 100" in the Plein Air Salon, (Plein Air Magazine) June competition out of 834 entries from 29 countries. It also won the honorable mention award in the same competition. It is currently available on my awards and honors wall at Windswept Fine Art Gallery on Lopez Island.

I am thrilled to get notice (October 2023) that it has also received another top award in The Pastel Journal Magazine's 25th Annual The 25th Annual Pastel 100 in February/March 2024.

The original framed painting is available from our awards and honors wall at Windswept Fine Art Gallery. $8500.
