Beauty and the Beast II

painted en plein air from the Anacortes Marina area, looking out over the refinery at sunrise. There's an eerie beauty to the oil refinery until you think about the tankers moored out there and the distinct possibility of an oil spill that could wipe out the San Juan Islands for decades. I feel that this particular sunrise in May gave the whole essence of a disastrous scenario and how insignificant the man in the rowboat would be if that happened. The light has a greenish glow beyond the brightness of the distant sunrise that helps to convey this feeling.
