Painted at Dawn on December 21, 2019 from the artists' property overlooking Swift Bay and Thatcher Pass, on Lopez Island, WA. The dramatic colors of this sunrise are made even livelier by the instantaneous reflection bouncing off the water in the distance. Sometimes, it's a "lazy ring" of light created by refraction between sun, water and clouds, but this came as a flash of light that was set in motion as the sunlight hit the water and shot an ethereal cast straight back into the atmosphere. It happens rarely, but I was happy to see this phenomenon as it developed!
