This barn sits along the rural La Conner-Whitney Highway at a long curve @ 2 miles west of Highway 20, which connects Anacortes and Mt. Vernon. I stopped for this plein air session on an autumn afternoon on my way to La Conner, when I dropped off my painting for "The Legends Gallery" at the 40th annual Arts Alive exhibit at Maple Hall

Winter cover crops in warm greens offset the fall colors starting up in the valley. Reflections of my 50 years as an artist on Lopez Island are hidden somewhere in these pastel strokes.
