Summer/Fall 2008 Newsletter

Coming Saturday and Sunday, August 30 & 31, is the 12th Annual Lopez Island Labor Day Studio Tour. This year we are celebrating the opening of Windswept Fine Art Gallery to coincide with this event. The gallery is adjacent to our main house and will feature my original artwork and giclee prints, year-round. Hours are: 10-5 Friday-Sunday and always by appointment. Call 360-468-2557 or email: [email protected] to make an appointment. As paintings appear in my blogs, they will always be first available from my website.

The new gallery is an exclusive outlet for my work, although I will still be showing pieces at Colin Goode’s gallery on Lopez, as well as my other regular galleries. They are: Gallery San Juan, Friday Harbor Crow Valley Gallery, Orcas Island and Art on the Boulevard Gallery, Vancouver, WA

Many pieces from our recent trip to Portugal, Spain, France, Slovenia, Italy and Croatia will be framed and featured at the studio tour, together with lots of new work from around the islands. I have hit a new stride with plein air pieces and have made 21 paintings since we returned from Europe the last week of June.

Each year, we host a Friday Night studio tour "Preview Party" with work available for past patrons at a 10-15% discount. We only discount the work for one day, Friday, August 29, so if you have not received an invitation in past years and would like to take advantage of this discount, please contact me. Work usually sells fast at the studio tour and this gives you an opportunity to view pieces before the doors open on Saturday and Sunday.

I will also have two pieces in The Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters annual auction, November 1st in the Seattle area. I will announce more specifics on that event in a blog soon.

Plans for the fall include teaching a 4 day pastel workshop, through The Lopez Arts Experience here at the studio, then a trip to Georgia in October, to teach an invitational workshop near Atlanta, and to paint for two weeks. Beyond that, I will be working with the thousands of reference photos from our European trip and creating a studio series to complement the plein air pieces (50) that I did during the 3 month European painting trip. It’s always nice to step into the studio during the colder months and paint from reference material made, when we travelled in the warm southern European countries.

Do stop by the new gallery whenever you are visiting the island! 783 Port Stanley Rd. Lopez Island, WA.
